Time flies

Wow, this year is speeding by. Tomorrow is Halloween...goblins and ghosts and fairy princesses will roam the streets. My grandkids will be Michael Jackson, a ballerina, a rock star and a ladybug. I never liked dressing up for Halloween but I do love to see little kids dressed up and coming to the door for a treat. Maybe having to wear a snowsuit over my costume most years (I did grow up in Buffalo) was the ultimate turnoff for me but for those of you who love the holiday: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Wedding

While it's not work-related, I was amazed to discover that all photographers are using digital cameras to preserve images. My younger daughter was a gorgeous bride on 10/5/07. She married the man of her dreams (and an ideal son-in-law) on a picture perfect night before 100 family and friends. Capturing the magic of the event were both a print and film photographer. They took hundreds of photos and extraordinary amounts of footage. Back when I married the first time, you selected 12 photos from among 4 dozen or so, which were then enlarged and put in an album. If you didn't pay for extra photos, they were gone forever. Now, you get the disks with all of the photos and all of the footage, as well as the dvd's and albums. No longer are you limited to the number of slots in an album. I must say, the technology has changed but the mother-of-the-bride still cries when her baby daughter is married.

Deputy Director's Musings

I am so excited to be part of the Learning 2.0 at Queens Library! My grandfather used to say, "You'll never learn any younger," when I would tell him that I didn't know how to do something. I know for some folks this will seem more like jumping off a cliff than rolling off a log, but the cool thing is that we're all in this together. A number of years ago, the PSD staff took group lessons in Croatian. While none of us became proficient, the experience of learning together made a strong bond. I hope that Learning 2.0 will do the same thing for you and your coworkers. Thanks for reading my blog.
